Here is our list of suggestions for a fantastic celebration.

Navy Pier Fireworks

The Navy Pier presents fireworks displays biweekly all summer, but they save the biggest and best for the Fourth. You'll have great views of Lake Michigan and a chance to enjoy the food and rides like the Navy Pier Centennial Wheel at Millennium Park. The park has a Chicago-themed miniature golf course with 18 holes. Be ready for some of the most breathtaking fireworks you'll ever experience at 9:30 pm synchronized to patriotic music.

Fireworks Dinner Cruises

The Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan are the perfect backdrops for the Navy Pier's fireworks show. Dinner cruises like Mystic Blue, the Spirit of Chicago and others offer buffet dinners, cash bars, live entertainment, and DJs. Watch the fireworks from a rooftop deck for a Fourth of July celebration you'll never forget. Most cruises board around 6:30 pm and sail from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. The cruises are popular so book early.

Windy City Smokeout

It doesn't get more American than country music and barbeque. Head to 560 West Grand Street for the annual Windy City Smokeout. Sponsors of this Chicago Fourth of July event fill the parking lot with pitmasters from around the nation. Taste how they make their sauce in states like Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, and Tennessee. Pig out and listen to live music from country greats like Aaron Lewis, Asley McBride, and Brett Eldredge.

Skokie Fourth of July

Skokie is popular on the North Shore for its annual lively parade and 3-D fireworks display. The parade kicks off at noon with marching bands and plenty of patriotic floats. It starts on Oakton Street and ends at Oakton Park. At 5 pm the pre-fireworks festivities begin with music food, children's games, and face painting. Be sure to be one of the first 10,000 patrons so you will get your free #-D glasses for the fireworks show.

Itasca Fireworks

Hamilton Lakes in Itasca is another great fireworks venue to attend in the Chicago area. The Independence Day celebration starts at 4 pm on the Fourth. Live music by top performers rock out from 7 pm until 8 pm. Food trucks are on site and the Itasca Brewing Company sponsors a beer tent. Hamilton Lakes is convenient to O'Hare airport located just west of it.
