What You Don’t Know About Chicago

The Windy City offers its visitor an unforgettable experience, from the remarkable combination between traditional and modern architecture styles to restaurants, parks and concert venues. Some of them are so popular and known worldwide, but others are still a mystery. But not to us!

What you don’t know about Chicago is that there is another side of the prosperous city, a more mystical one that offers you valuable insights into its history.

Explore Chicago’s deepest secret places and discover another side of the magnificent city.

Chicago’s West Side Grounds

A field located between buildings near the University of Illinois Medical Center, also known as West Side Park, was once the home of the famous baseball team Chicago Cubs between 1893 – 1915, where they played 22 seasons. Why is this place a secret one and why you should visit it? A piece of sport’s history has been written here. You can still feel the energy of the famous team, as it is related in Franklyn Pierce Adams’ poem when the trio of bear cubs – “Tinker to Evers to Chance” struck fear into their opponents.

Chicago’s Basilicas

Three Roman Catholic basilicas are spread throughout the Windy City and represent its biggest mysteries, especially regarding architecture and historical significance. Chicago was a favorite place for immigrants in the 19th century, most of them Catholic Europeans and this is why so many Catholic churches had been built in that period.

The oldest is Our Lady of Sorrows, built in 1902 in a fabulous Italian Renaissance architectural style.

The following basilica, completed in 1921 in the Classic Revival architectural style, is St, Hyacinth.

The last one, All Saints Basilica, was constructed in 1960 and it was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is based on a Neo-Gothic architectural structure.

Cemetery Town

The best way to discover a city is to uncover its mysteries. On the top of the list of Chicago’s cemeteries is the fascinating Oak Woods Cemetery, established in 1854. The first burials took place in 1860 after the American Civil War.

Visit this cemetery to revive some American secrets lost to history, as the cemetery is the home for the graves of notable African-American figures, as Harold Washington. Adrian “Cap” Anson is also buried here.

Essanay Studios

Take a trip into the secrets of Chicago’s movie industry and discover the roots of Hollywood. Essanay Studio was founded in 1907 George K. Spoor and Gilbert M. Anderson and is known for its famous silent films, especially Charlie Chaplin series were shot on the streets of Chicago.

Shot your Chicago movie while visiting the Windy City and make your dreams come true.
